Southern Trail

The Southern Trail is one of our favorite wrecks. We found this one is 2003 with the help of a local dive shop owner and this was the wreck that got us interested in surveys, research etc. We did an initial survey in 2005 and we did a followup survey on the interior of the wreck in 2008.

In April 2009 we did a presentation at "Shipwrecks", an annual symposium with over 400 attendees on the wreck of the Southern Trail. This was very well received, and whether the attendees were shipwreck hunters or, poker games experts, we trust they found it extremely informative and interesting.

When we first started diving this wreck, no one could (or would) tell us any details of the history or circumstances for it being sunk. This fueled our imaginations and Liquid Archaeology went on to not only identify the wreck as the Southern Trail but gather a detailed history of the vessel.

Originally launched as "Trail" in 1926, she was comissioned by a wealthy barrister from New York City. Subsequently she was owned by a rag trader turned real estate mogule, an corset designer and even the inventor of the pull out sofa bed to name a few.
